Apocalypse is the fourth dungeon in Original Picabocraft's Adventure Map, and the last to be fully completed. Unlike the other dungeons, Apocalypse has its own independent story. While there were rewards for the Adventure Village, the main focus of the dungeon is completion and story, more similar to the adventures in Picabocraft 2's Adventure Depot.

The dungeon was created by MattWalmart and took multiple months to complete. Apocalpyse is currently completely inoperable, as it relied heavily on old adventure mode mechanics and had to be manually reset every time.

In order to access the dungeon, players have to first obtain a bow and arrow. This is located in a hidden chest on top of the Adventure Map's spawn. Initially, there was no clue as to where the bow could be found, as it was intended that players discover it as part of The Great Picabocraft Adventure. When that adventure became defunct, a sign was hidden near Apocalypse's entrance to give players a hint.

Synopsis[]

You, an unnamed character, wake up in a small house. Signs explain that you have no memory of your life before this, but the house is familiar. You come to a tunnel that is filled with gravel, which contradicts your memory. After finding a shovel near a grave, you are able to clear the gravel and move through the tunnel.

The path after you wake up

You come to a crossroad, but it does not help you remember anything. The paths lead to either a farm or a city. Taking the path to the farm leads to a dead end blocked off by wood. You travel to the city and find a single building in a fenced of courtyard. You can use your shovel to dig around, however, and it becomes apparent that the original tunnel leading to the city was purposefully blocked off and a new path leading to the courtyard was built afterwards.

You arrive at the city proper. There are many small fires on a few buildings. All the buildings are empty and have strange layouts. You remember that one is a firehouse, and you take an axe. With this, you destroy the wood blocking the farm.

The farm and farmhouse

The farm is completely dried up, with dead bushes all around. There is a locked farmhouse made of red wool and a mine. Looking around, you discover a button and use it to open the door, which then shuts behind you.

There is nothing in the building, which you realize is actually not a farmhouse, but the entrance to another tunnel. At the end of the end, you fall into a deep cavern, where you hear a voice calling out.

You wake up in an interrogation room, apparently knocked unconscious. Two men named Percy and Franco interrogate you, referring to something called "the Stone." When they gain nothing from you, they agree to take you to someone named Sam.

You are left in a Courthouse in a "rotting town." Sam speaks to you using speakers, explaining that in the settlement, only Percy and Franco do not use them for communication. After you mention the farmhouse to him, he suddenly becomes enraged. He orders Percy and Franco to take you to "The Hold."

The Hold

This turns out to be a jail cell. You use your bow to access a hidden note signed by "a friend," instructing you to place an object on the cell door and destroy it. This opens the top half, and another shot with the bow unlocks the other. You make a run for it, only to be caught in a trap and dragged back to Sam.

Sam explains why he has punished you: years ago, a mysterious man appeared, telling riddles. Soon after, a disaster (details of which are lost to history) forced humanity underground. Years later, people appeared, telling of the surface restored. But they were found to be carriers of a terrible disease that destroyed most of the remaining population. Now, every

surface preacher is destroyed before more damage can be done. With that, Sam pumps gas into the court, killing you.

The player takes control of Percy, who has returned from the courthouse early, not wanting to witness your death. He finds a hidden combination in his living quarters and uses it to access a secret staircase, where a sign reads "To Be Continued."

Style[]

While Apocalypse takes place outside, it is no less linear than the other Adventure Map dungeons. There is only one correct path, and the player is forced into staying on thin paths throughout the playtime.

The storytelling style of Apocalypse differs than previous dungeons and later adventures. Narration is told primarily through signs, and characters speak in the chat. Unlike Picabocraft 2's characters, which emulate player messages but using greater than and less than signs, the characters in Apocalypse speak with colons following their names. This includes you, the player character, who has pre-written dialogue. The characters in Apocalypse also have a color associated with them. You speak in white text, Percy speaks in blue, Franco in green, and Sam in red.

Completed By[]

Inside the entrance, a series of signs lists the players that completed the dungeon. Before the list stopped being updated, these names were listed:

Reception[]

Reactions to the dungeon was generally positive. Most agree that it was the best dungeon at the time. However there were a few complaints. Sniper515 noted that the dungeon was very linear, and a few others said that it was overly difficult.

Trailer[]

A launch trailer for the dungeon was posted on the Picabocraft Studios YouTube channel on June 19th, 2014. The trailer showcases multiple scenes from the dungeon, including the ending.

Legacy[]

MattWalmart announced that a sequel was in development after a few players had tried out the first part. Intitially titled Apocalpyse Part 2: The Crossroads, it was later renamed to Apocalypse Part 2: Conspiracy. After a few weeks of development, a entrance was built in the Adventure Map, stylized like the staircase that finished the first dungeon. The sequel went on and off development for a long time, up until the end of Picabocraft. With the creation of Picabocraft 2, the odds of Conspiracy being completed are unlikely.

Apocalypse plays a minor role in the Picabocraft 2 adventure, The Ruins, during which the player explores the ruins of the Adventure Map. In order to enter Fortress of Secrets, the player must pass through the entrance to Apocalypse. If the player brings a bow, they are able to shoot the entrance button to the dungeon. However, this does not work, only sending the message "Maybe next time."
